Pastel Fabric Study (2025)

This piece was part of my ongoing technical studies, created to better understand how light folds across draped surfaces. Fabric is one of the most instructive subjects for a painter — its curves, shadows, and reflective subtleties demand precision while rewarding intuition.

No Blending / Transitional Shading (2025)

This study was created as a technical and emotional exercise — an intentional refusal of polish. Working without blending forced an immediacy that revealed the raw structure of light and form. Rather than concealing the brushwork, I allowed it to remain visible, treating each stroke as both mark and meaning.

Colour Filter Study (2024)

This study was an exercise in translating painterly emotion through absence — reducing a full-colour portrait to tone and value while preserving its depth and intimacy. The process of filtration and digital reworking allowed me to explore how contrast alone can hold narrative weight.

Head & Brushstroke Study (2024)

This study was created as a continuation of my exploration into painterly mark-making and the tension between refinement and spontaneity. Unlike the 2023 No Blending study, which focused on structural precision, this piece leans toward movement — a portrait emerging through texture rather than line.

Pear Study (2024)

Pear Study was created as an early exploration of still-life composition and controlled lighting. The subject is modest — a single pear resting against darkness — yet the painting uses this simplicity to study tone, surface, and the quiet emotional charge of observation.

Avocado Study (2023)

This piece was created as a still life study, focusing on the quiet discipline of observation. The avocado’s form — smooth, organic, and divided — offers a simple but rewarding structure to explore light and texture. The work captures the intersection between realism and painterly looseness, translating a familiar object into a study of tone and material.

Horse Study (2025)

This study was created as part of the preliminary research for Soft Apocalypse, serving as both anatomical exploration and emotional calibration. The horse has long existed in art as a symbol of grace and endurance, but here the focus lies on restraint — a still moment before motion, a quietness that anticipates the larger themes of transformation and vulnerability within the main work.

Untitled (2025)

This untitled study belongs to a continuing investigation into the expressive capacity of light within absence, a theme that threads throughout my landscape practice. Here, the composition is reduced almost to abstraction: a solitary ruin perched on a precipice, its form nearly devoured by shadow, while a thin seam of gold dissolves along the horizon.
